I spent today at the Batesville High School Career Expo asking people a pretty simple question:
“Did you always know what you wanted to be?”
Most of us? Not even close.
I’ve changed careers. So had a lot of the people in that room. What we thought we wanted to be at 16, 18 or even 25 isn’t necessarily where life took us.
But then I asked the firefighters.
Every. Single. One. 😂
Yep. They always wanted to be firefighters.
Apparently firefighters really are a different breed. 🚒
And somewhere in there is probably the best lesson from today.
Some kids already know exactly where they’re headed.
Most are still figuring it out.
That’s why you put a room full of possibilities in front of them.

I'm at Batesville High School this morning again for Career Expo Day. Guys, how many of you wanted to be firemen when you first started way back in the day? What do you want to be when you're growing up? I actually wanted to be a teacher. I like your hairstyle by the way. Gotta say that. Hey, what did you want to be when you're growing up? I actually want to be a teacher at a mom. It's from a teacher to an artist to an author. We never envision being an entrepreneur. If you don't leave here knowing exactly what you want to do for the rest of your life, we failed. We want them to know what their next step is after they graduate whether it's employment, enlistment, or going out and getting a job. I hope that they see that they have so many options out there that they didn't even know existence. And that's the thing that I everybody. You don't know what you're passionate about. Let your heartschool Career Expo twenty twenty-six. Thanks a lot.
