Kindergarten — Mrs. Walsman 1st Grade — Mrs. Cochran 2nd Grade — Mrs. Kunkel 3rd Grade — Mrs. Shine 4th Grade — Mrs. Kunkel (again 😂) 5th Grade — Mrs. Novak *Mrs Novak ran an election in class! I never forgot!
Crazy how fast time moves.
Those classrooms were the beginning of everything — learning confidence, structure, friendships, responsibility, and probably a few lessons learned the hard way too.
As you get older, you realize elementary teachers do way more than teach subjects. They help shape personalities, habits, and belief in yourself before kids even understand what that means.
My wife, Casey, teaches 2nd grade at BPS, and honestly, it’s a different skill set entirely. I’ve always felt strong teaching older students, but teaching kids the fundamentals of reading, writing, confidence, routines, and how school even works? That takes a level of patience, care, and talent I deeply respect.
Appreciate all the teachers from my years at Batesville schools and everywhere else putting in the work every day for kids.
You mattered more than you probably realized.
