The water is gone. The disaster isn’t.

I spent some time in Laurel, Indiana today.

The cleanup is underway, but what I heard over and over was simple: they still need people.

Volunteers. Boots on the ground. People willing to tear out drywall, remove carpet, shovel debris and help families begin putting their lives back together.

And if you want to donate, make sure your money is going through trusted local sources where it can make a direct impact.

The cameras will eventually leave.

Laurel will still be cleaning up.

Let’s not forget them when they do.

Looks like something from a zombie film. Honestly, Waterhead have gone up and they've got everything stripped out. I'm in Laurel, Indiana. This is Batel's Grocery. This is one of the places that have been hit hardest by the flooding. They got cleanup efforts going on right now. This guy has been going back and forth all morning but I can't tell you how many dump trucks that I've seen passed by. A lot of people want to send stuff but make sure we're sending the right things to the right people. Local sources are best. I'm here with Becky Jones and the Laurel Coliseum. Right now, I think what we're needing most is volunteers trying to clean up dispose of, tear out walls, shovel debris. Bring in heavy equipment. Remove. Well, that's what we're here now. Yup. You know, yesterday, we have like 2fifty, 300 people in over the weekend and now it's just down to a handful but understand everybody's got a job. Everybody's gotta work. So, that's what we need. How many people to help rip out carpets, get out drywall, and help with the sanitary conditions to make this place livable again. So, we need, you know, monetary donations and then boots on the ground to help clean up. Volunteers money. Make sure we funnel it through the right places. We'll get you the help that we need. So Growing Laurel Foundation, if you want to donate directly to get a local impact on what it is that's going on in the flooding community and I know the media and cameras are going to be gone in a week and this is where we need you most.
